Falconry in the GCC Countries

on 04 May 2022

Falconry is the hunting of wild animals in their natural habitat using a trained predator. Small animals are hunted; Squirrels and rabbits often hunt these birds.

Falconry is an ancient practice whose royal connotations go back centuries. Falcons are also a symbol of the status of the rich and influential. Falconry in the Middle East is a practice that has changed. When these traditional Bedouin camps were first established on the great Arabian Peninsula, predators were used for hunting and live prey.
The birds are closed and trained for several months and then released back into the wild for breeding. The Arabs were the first people to practice this game. The UAE was the first country in the world to issue falcon passports and in 1983 built a hospital for them in Dubai.
