Tick-borne encephalitis vaccine
There is no TBE vaccine licensed in the United States. Two inactivated TBE vaccines are available in Europe.
Tick-borne encephalitis vaccine is recommended for travelers who are moving or traveling to a TBE-endemic area and will have extensive exposure to ticks based on their planned outdoor activities and itinerary.
The decision to vaccinate should be based on an assessment of their planned activities and destination, medical risk factors, and personal perception and tolerance of risk.
The TBE vaccination consists of 3 doses. However, after the first two doses a sufficient protection can be expected for the on-going tick season (protection rate over 90 percent after the second dose)
